Here is a compilation of work to showcase my skills and experience on the Autodesk Visual Effects family of tools, Flame Premium, Flare, Flame Assist, Lustre and Smoke. Edited on Flame, this ‘eye candy’ reel also touches on a lot of campaigns that I have enjoyed working on both here in the UK, and abroad. I am a Freelance Senior Level Flame Artist and bring vast experience to the tools, having worked with numerous agencies, production companies, directors and editors at many notable post houses and agencies over the years. Whether as an artist, editor or compositor, whatever the job requires of me, I can adapt to the task. I hope this film illustrates my versatility, flexibility and experience. It has been a fun ride.

BEGINNINGS. After graduating with a degree in Media and Design I began my career as an offline editor, cutting commercials, developing a real passion for the medium and craft. I progressed into online finishing and visual effects via Quantel Editbox and Quantel Henry, later progressing to Autodesk Smoke and Flame, on which I have been proficient since 2002.

COMMERCIALS. I have run teams on large creative jobs as Lead 2D Artist and have developed a real maturity, through experience, on Autodesk products in this sector. I have run the post on entire retail accounts (DFS, Dreams, SCS, Argos, Iceland, Next) and have worked within the internal departments of advertising agencies, developing ideas, working closely with the creative teams at the absolute inception of the idea. I have specialized in beauty work on many campaigns (Avon, GHD, L’Oreal, Maybelline, Garnier), am skilled at versioning and adaptation work (Dove, Samsung, Budweiser, Reebok) and have worked extensively delivering for the many new digital markets.

AWARDS. ‘Timmy Time’, a stop frame animation show for Aardman and Disney, won two Baftas for Best Pre School Animation. I designed the series branding, completed all the visual effects and rig work, conformed, graded, and provided on set shoot supervision throughout the entire production. All 76 episodes were post produced by myself on Flame.

DIVERSE. In addition to commercials I have worked across a whole variety of disciplines using the Flame family of tools. I have developed campaigns for channel rebranding, worked on TV sponsorships, have completed work for cinema delivery, digital online content, broadcast promos, pop videos and corporate films. I have worked on extremely challenging briefs for large format projection projects and bespoke pieces for museums and leisure heritage projects and have specialist knowledge of stop frame animation acquisition, pipeline workflow and clean up. Stop frame is a love affair and a passion of mine that began more than 20 years ago. I am extremely proud of my contribution to the shows Bob the Builder, Pingu, Rubbadubbers, Timmy Time and more recently Twirlywoos. I continue to contribute to stop frame projects when possible, as my passion shows no sign of diminishing.

BROADCAST. Credits would have to include online editor on documentary work for BBC Manchester, BBC Religion as well as the entire visual effects, online and grade for two series of the award winning comedy drama ‘Linda Green’ for Granada TV.

TEAM PLAYER. I have key experience training, developing and identifying new talent, a real pleasure of mine. I am a good team player, comfortable with clients and have a fine work ethic. I am just as happy and comfortable assisting other seasoned Flame Artists as I am leading a project and consider it a pleasure to continue to develop and learn from other like minded and dedicated artists like myself.

LUSTRE. I have experience on Lustre and am extremely passionate about colour grading. I have cut a mixture of graded work into my general reel and there is a filter on the site to look at my Lustre work exclusively.

FLAME FAMILY. The family has been through many changes over the years. I am fortunate to have run many sessions on every release, through the lifecycle of Smoke, leading up to and including the fully featured Flame Premium. The development path of the Flame and Smoke products has been long and I enjoy marrying this great suite of powerful tools to my strong editing, graphic design and compositing background.
